UAVs, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, are also known as RPAs (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) and “drones” (the media’s favourite term).
They come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny toys that fit in the palm of your hand, to large planes capable of flying to New Zealand and back.
And, they are already becoming the “next big thing”; the media is full of stories about “drones”. Some are positive, and some are negative. Like any new and emerging technology, they can be used for good or bad purposes.
One of the most exciting and challenging things about these new technologies is that they are evolving at an incredible rate. For several years, I have been involved with the emerging global community of enthusiasts, focusing on multirotor copters and model planes.
From a hobby perspective, I have been designing, building, and flying these craft, with a focus on first person view (FPV) flying. This is where an onboard camera puts you in the virtual cockpit, unlocking amazing potential for aerial photography and more.
Photography and videography is just one field that is set to explode globally. Getting your head around it can be incredibly hard though, so I am offering training and mentoring for anyone interested, as well as a construction service for the custom design and purpose building of UAVs, for both private and business customers.
